| Frequently asked questions |
What is the significance of the details marked on the packaging for the contact lenses or shown on the invoice or on the prescription?
OD designates your right eye OG designates your left eye
On most packaging, you will find signs to indicate:
The brand of the lenses, e.g. Ciba Vision or Bausch & Lomb The name of the lenses, e.g. Focus Dailies or Acuvue The power (D) of the lenses: a value between + 20.00 and -20.00 The radius (BC) or the base curve of the lenses: a value between 8.00 and 10.00 The diameter (DIA) of the lenses: a value between 12.0 and 15.0 The cylinder (CYL) of the lenses (only for toric lenses): a value between 0.25 and 10.00 The axis (AX) of the cylinder: a value between 0 and 180 (n.b. 0 = 180) The addpower (ADD) of the lenses (only for multifocal lenses): a value between 1.00 and 3.00 or a term such as low or high The colour of the lenses (only for coloured lenses): e.g. blue or brown
What are the details which opticshop will need to be able to supply your lenses? On these pages, you will be able to select for yourself the brand and the product name of the lenses you wish to order. Then the program will ask you to indicate certain parameters, such as for example the power or the diameter of your lenses.
Please note that depending on the type of lens, up to 6 parameters may need to be specified.
How long can the different types of lenses be worn, and how frequently should your lenses be replaced? You have been advised of the number of hours per day during which you can wear your lenses, and the number of days when you can use the same lens before changing it, by the person who fitted your lenses. These wearing times should be respected, and cannot be changed without having previously consulted your optician/lens fitter, or your ophthalmologist.
As a general rule, daily disposable lenses can only be worn once.
Extendet wear contact lenses can be worn day and night, without taking them out, for a certain number of days.
All other types of lenses should be taken out for sleeping, and should be stored in a lens case with a suitable storage solution.
By buying my lenses for a whole year or more, do I risk going over the use-by date? Thanks to our significant volume of orders, the lenses which opticshop supplies can be used in 4 or 5 years’ time, while abiding by the constraints demanded by their use-by dates.
What are the differences between the various types of coloured lenses? Principally, there are 3 different types of coloured lenses:
Lightly-tinted lenses: this light tint does not alter the colour of the eyes. Its only function is to make it easier to handle the lenses.
Coloured lenses known as “enhancer colours”: with this type of coloured lenses, the natural eye colour of the wearer is intensified. This type of lenses is especially suitable for people with light-coloured eyes.
Coloured lenses known as “opaque colours”: with this type of lenses, you can change your eye colour. A coloured ring on the lens covers the iris of your eye, whilst the central part of the lens (positioned in front of the pupil) is not coloured and so your vision is unaffected.
